WELCOME FROM THE CHAIR

At the core of the Frontiers in Chemistry, Biopharmaceuticals, and Biotechnology 2007 meeting is a strong and creative scientific program. The program builds on San Diego’s scientific strengths but will have broad national appeal to researchers, students, postdocs, faculty, and educators alike. Our vision for the meeting is one of top academic, industrial, and government speakers, cutting-edge symposia, memorable social activities, and a wealth of networking and career opportunities.

Although the meeting has a core focus related to the biopharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, we are also committed to balancing the program with the traditional areas of chemistry, as well as undergraduate research and education. The meeting is affordable, cutting edge, and takes place in a centrally located area of San Diego just minutes from the beautiful beaches and bustling downtown.

While our meeting will offer the accessibility and creativity of a regional meeting, we believe that the core technical program is of the highest quality. An area of particular strength for the Frontier’s meeting will be the creative interweaving of academic and industrial scientific interests. The San Diego region is host to an incredible diversity of highly respected academic, industrial, and research institutes that are shaping the flavor and content of our meeting.

The 2007 Frontier’s meeting will also showcase undergraduate research and chemical education. In addition to undergraduate research poster presentations, we will programmatically explore the many issues surrounding undergraduate research including funding, institutionalizing a culture of research, successful research strategies, as well as the role undergraduate research plays in preparing U.S. students for graduate school. In addition to the integrated chemical education programming (Wednesday – Friday), Educator’s Day will be held on Saturday, October 13th. This portion of the meeting is devoted to our local educators and will feature lectures, outreach opportunities, and a reception.

I invite you to be a part of this unique scientific event in beautiful San Diego.
